As someone with rheumatoid arthritis, that hit very hard. I'm glad your mum was finally released of her pain, though it's so sad she got to that point so young.

Funnily enough, RA isn't actually predominantly hereditary; there is an increased risk of developing it if a family member does, but it's small (0.8% disease rate in those with family history vs 0.5% of general population. Sounds like your brothers were hella unlucky :( Thank god you missed it!

And thankfully it doesn't attack your organs, just joints, tendons, ligaments and bones. Just, lol. Unless your mum/brothers also had lupus, as I do, the two conditions often go together. Lupus will do a number on your kidneys, sadly.

There's some evidence suggesting vitamin D supplements can have a preventative effect against developing an autoimmune disorder, so I'd recommend getting on that train. Better dafe than sorry!
