Childfree People Are Not All the Same

Just another bizarre conversation in my childfree life

Some time ago, I wrote an article about a woman on the train who told me to shut up because I was talking about being childfree:

How ironic that it should lead to another bizarre conversation with a complete stranger! I received the following comment on that article:

please - NOBODY is trying to "silence" you for being free of children. But nobody likes to be insulted, either. A number of people who loudly proclaim themselves "childfree" declare themselves intolerant of people who do have children, insult parents as "breeders" and regard parenthood as pure indulgence, when the truth is that if the "breeders" stopped having children tomorrow their pensions would be well up the spout.

For the second time in a fortnight, I was so confused as to why people were so angry at me for being childfree — I didn’t insult parents in my original conversation or the article and I certainly didn’t call them “breeders”!
