Did I go too far?

Met my new rheumatologist for the first time this week. My lupus is still active so she’s starting me on a new drug: Methotrexate.

Methotrexate is pretty nasty stuff (it’s a chemo drug in higher doses) so it’s not advised to get pregnant while taking it, or for a while after. I tried to assure the doctor that this wasn’t going to be an issue, but she seemed to not be sure…

Doctor: You have to be careful to not get pregnant while taking this drug

Me: Not a problem

Doctor: If you want to try for a baby afterwards, you have to wait at least six months

Me: No worries, I don’t want to try for a baby ever

Doctor: Well, if you change your mind…

My mum: Trust me, she’s not going to change her mind

Doctor: OK, but if you DO change your mind and get pregnant, the baby will be born with defects

Me: If I get pregnant, no baby is getting born

Doctor: ……Um. OK.

Too far? It’s true!
