I think representation is important for two reasons: encouraging tolerance and preventing people from feeling 'othered'.

People dislike difference, that's why fat people are bullied and discriminated against. With more representation, perhaps they wouldn't stick out, and there would be less discrimination.

I can't comment from a first-hand perspective as I'm thin and have never been bigger, but I certainly don't see why body diversity in media should be a bad thing.
