I think the fact that so many different sectors are striking is telling. Wages have not kept up with inflation, not just today's mega-inflation, but ever. My mum was a nurse, her pay was frozen for five years before she got a 1% rise — for one of the toughest jobs in society, that's fucked up.
Plus the reporting is biased. Not all of the strikes are about pay. RMT are striking because they want to make job cuts so severe it would make the railways unsafe because they'd be essentially unmanned. They would also prevent disabled people from travelling freely because there wouldn't routinely be someone at the station to do the ramps.
Plus, it works be very easy to end all of the strikes — the government could simply open talks. They don't have to give the full request. But nothing will be resolved while they're so ugly and recalcitrant as to even listen to workers' legitimate concerns.
So yeah, despite the fact I'm £100 down because my train to see family on Christmas Eve was cancelled, I support the strikers.
