I think this is solid advice. A lot of the people saying otherwise are older and met their partners in person. Dating apps are, as you say, all about visual attraction, because you can't learn much about a person's character from a brief profile. Not saying it's a good thing, I'm glad I met my partner in 'real life', but it is what it is. Women still won't be interested in seeing a guy again if it turns out his personality is rubbish, so it's not like you don't need to be a nice person too, that's just implied.
