I Was Sexually Harassed On ONLINE SCRABBLE
Is literally nowhere safe from these creeps?!
Is there any online space where a woman can just quietly exist without being hit on and harassed by men? I’m starting to think not.
Social media fell to the harassers years ago. We’ve all received a Facebook friend request from a random man we either don’t know or have some tenuous connection to, as detailed by Susan Wheelock in the post that inspired this one:
I have been asked out, proposed to and sexually propositioned (all by different men) on Twitter. Every woman knows not to check their Instagram message requests folder in public.
This is all so commonplace that it neither shocks nor appals me anymore. Just block, delete, rinse, repeat.
What I do very much resent though is the spread of this behaviour to ever further reaches of the internet. Take Quora, for example. I feel like a lot of Medium writers are graduates of Quora — I certainly am.
