Most people want to date people they are attracted to, that's true. But that is not always "really good looking". Beauty is incredibly subjective: my boyfriend tells me every day how pretty I am, other men have called me an ugly witch. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, so I don't think it's at all true to say that only people who are good looking by your specific standards can get a date.
