I don't think there is a correct way to travel. All travel broadens the mind unless you're MAGA or a gammon. The first time I travelled outside of a family holiday was all planned and arranged for me and I never would have gone otherwise, because I was shy and terrified, being on my own. Sometimes just doing it is leading your comfort zone, regardless of how convenient it is.
