I never knew the origin of carving pumpkins.

The origin of the jack-o’-lantern is also ridiculous. The Irish myth speaks of a man named “Stingy Jack,” who tricked the master of evil himself, Satan, not once, but several times while alive. (C’mon man.) The tale says once Jack died, he wasn’t allowed into heaven nor hell. Instead, he was banished to roam the Earth in dark purgatory with only burning coal inside of a carved-out turnip to light his path. Over the years, that turnip evolved into a pumpkin with Jack’s ghoulish face carved into it.

I never knew the origin of carving pumpkins. Interesting! Never celebrated Halloween though, being European, ironically, so not sure if I’ve ever carved one myself.
