There are a plethora of articles out there that promise to reveal the secrets of the naturally skinny, but the majority are vague, inaccurate or both. I don’t want people taken in by clickbait and bad advice, so in case it’s helpful, here are the ‘secrets’ (using that term loosely) of this naturally skinny woman, right from the horse’s mouth.

First, what do I mean by “naturally skinny”?

At 5'11 and 55 kilos (120 lb) at my heaviest, I’ve been told I’m skinny all my life. I do nothing to deliberately maintain this weight: I’ve never dieted or counted calories (except when I was trying to gain weight), and until very recently, I never exercised.

Secret number 1: I don’t snack

I already said I don’t count calories or deliberately restrict food and that’s true — I just don’t tend to get hungry between meals. I have breakfast, lunch and dinner, usually at around 9am, 2pm and 8pm.

Breakfast is usually a bowl of bran flakes with sugar; lunch is typically two cheese rolls or a chicken and avocado salad followed by a couple of dark chocolate rice cakes. Dinner could be anything: pasta; meat, vegetables and potatoes; pizza; burgers…
