The UK is NOT just an extension of the USA
We’re nothing like you
I frequently hear US Americans compare the UK to their country. Well, usually it’s “Britain” or “England”, but that’s just because people don’t know the difference. Regardless, the conclusion is always the same: “it’s just like here” or “it’s the most American-like country in Europe”.
Um, guys, it’s not personal, but we’re nothing alike. Yes, we both speak in a dialect of the same root language, but that’s about it. Let’s compare stats, shall we?
History
I could go out my front door now, spit, and hit something that’s older than your country. And I live in London, the most ruthlessly modernised UK destination. This isn’t a judgement, just a statement of fact. You can’t help when you were born, so to speak, but it really does make it difference to the whole vibe of the country.
According to Google, most of the oldest buildings in the USA date to the 17th century. That’s cool and I will definitely visit a few if I find myself in the area, but just for comparison’s sake, the UK’s oldest building was constructed in the year 300. BC.
I’m obsessed with history and adore historic architecture, the older the better. I’ve enjoyed visiting the USA but I wouldn’t be particularly…
