This case has been widely covered in the UK — I suspect the issue you're having is the typical US isolationism, where they don't care about anything happening beyond their own borders.

I don't hear men in my day-to-day life talking about it, but I've not really discussed it with my female friends either. It's just to horrific to even think about.
