She’s had sex, and that’s a problem
I find it endlessly fascinating how people work themselves into paroxysms of fury over the Duchess of Sussex. I’m a republican and I don’t even hate her that much (or at all). In truth, she’s no different to Kate, Diana, or any of the other sacrificial lambs before her — the UK has always had a problem with royal women. Here’s why Meghan never had a chance.
They have to hate someone
It’s amusing to me how much the press and the general public venerate Duchess Catherine now because I remember when she was known by another name:
“She’s tightening her grip on the Prince who tried to dump her”.
I’m sorry, but that’s vile. In fact, I remember the Mail published an absolutely excoriating piece about her the DAY before her wedding. Some of the accusations she faced in the press on a daily basis:
- She and her entire family were social climbers and gold-diggers
- Her parents sent her to St Andrews specifically to seduce Prince William
