Yes to all of this! I’m an editor for my day job — not on Medium — and it is my job to improve your work, whether that be adapting the tone of voice, bringing it in line with the house style guide or just tightening up sloppy prose. It’s NOT my job to debate with you about whether or not I have “the right” to change your work.

Thankfully I’ve never dealt with this personally, but I work with professional writers. Not being able to handle criticism is the mark of a layman.
